Rozalind (Roza) Benoit:  

If you knew me during our school days, say thirty or forty years ago, you may remember me as Roza Howard. I began my school life in Charlestown, NH, in kindergarten in the 1963/64 school year, back in the day when you could begin in the Fall at age four, if your fifth birthday arrived before the New Year. That was all fun and games, but everyone knew that real school began with First Grade. I was flipping through the on-line yearbook for Charlestown High School 1965 and discovered two things. The school year that I started first grade in Charlestown, Carlton "Pudgy" Fisk graduated Charlestown High School, Senior Class of 1965. That same year, my Dad supported the yearbook with an ad for Howard's General Store/Howard Chevron Station. I don't know if he did that any other year, but I was pleasantly surprised to discover those two details on the year that I started first grade. Two of my brothers were ahead of "Pudgy." My brother, Roger Howard, graduated in the Charlestown High School Class of 1960, and my brother, the late Roy R. Howard, Sr., attended there as well. I attended the First Grade Class of 1964/65 at the little stone, two-room school house exclusively for the first grade classes of Holden School, Charlestown, NH. Two first grade classes were on the main floor and a third first grade class was held in the basement. My brother, Mikel P. Stevens, Sr., was four years ahead of me in school. He attended the Holden school until we moved to Winter Garden, FL. I attended Winter Garden Elementary in my second grade, in 65/66. Then we returned back to North Charlestown, NH, where I attended third and fourth grades in 66/67 and 67/68 at the Farwell School, another little stone, two-room school house. The first and second grades were in the left room with Mrs. Leahy, and the third and fourth were in the right room with Mrs. Champney! Our room had the circular corner library!
